RASNOV FORTRESS

The citadel was built as part of a defense system for the Transylvanian villages exposed to outside invasions and is considered to be built between 1211 and 1225, during the rule of Teutonic Knights and it is one of the best preserved in Transylvania.

In 1335, during a Tatar incursion that ravaged the area, Râșnov and Brașovia were the only citadels remaining unconquered. The citadel was conquered only once in 1612. The fall was caused by the lack of water due to the discovery of the path to a secret spring by the enemy troops.

Between 1848-1849, because the locality was being crossed by the Hungarian revolutionaries and the Austrian imperial troops, the villagers retreated to the citadel. This was the last mission of the citadel as a place of refugee and defense.
Inside the citadel is a museum which briefly presents slices from the local history, the area's habits and crafts, and also gathers pieces and weapons from the inhabitants’ past. The exhibition contains the following sections: document photocopies, weapons, tools, stamps and period objects.

EVANGELICAL CHURCH

XIII-XIV CENTURY

The church was built in late XIII, beginning of the XIV century as a Catholic Church for the German community and after the Reformation it became a Protestant Evangelical Church, history that is reflected in the architecture of the building.

The pipe organ was built by Johann Prause in the XVIII century and fully restored by Ferdinand Stemmer between 2004-2010. The concerts held in the church are absolutely breathtaking.

Throughout its history, the church has suffered from fire and earthquake damage only to be restored again and again as an important center of the German community.

The church's impressive size, situates it as the second biggest historical monument in Rasnov.

 St. NICHOLAS CHURCH

Built in the XIII century, the Old St. Nicholas Church is the oldest Romanian Orthodox church in South-East Transylvania.
The medieval church was built out of stone, with a gothic architecture, specific to the time.

In 1500 the little church has suffered a partial deconstruction and following rebuilding, the interior was covered in frescos, part of which have been recently restored.
Throughout the centuries, the church has received numerous donations from noblemen and kings of Wallachia, proving that it has played an important role in the history of the area, beyond the role of a local church
